Nelson Clean Up Week: April 24th through May 1. The Nelson Conservation Commission invites all residents in Nelson to join us in cleaning up the trash along the roads in town. On April 24th, from 9:30 to 11:00 am, members of the commission will be on hand in front of the library to distribute trash bags and gloves and to assist you in choosing a section of road to clean. But you have the whole week to pick up the trash. Residents will not be responsible for taking the trash to the transfer station; our exemplary town road crew will pick up and dispose of bags of trash left along the roads.
If you have questions, or would like to sign up for a section of road ahead of time, please call or email Kathy Schillemat, chair of the Conservation Commission at 847-9785 or kschillemat@yahoo.com.
This year, your Conservation Commission invites you to take pictures of any unusual trash you find and of all the bags of trash you collect, and to keep a tally of the number of beer and soda cans you collect. The Chairman will offer prizes for the most unusual trash found, most bags collected, and the highest number of beer and soda cans (extra credit for high numbers of Bud Light cans, the beer of choice for litterers everywhere.). Pictures and tallies can be sent to kschillemat@yahoo.com, and, with the permission of the participants, may be posted on the Conservation Commission Facebook page.
Every family and/or individual who participates in roadside clean up will receive a bag of daffodil bulbs in the fall as a token of our gratitude for your service. The bulbs will be delivered in time for fall planting.
